Working in the Letterpress Print Shop
So as you know I have been working on getting things rolling in the letterpress print shop. I’m going to keep this short, but I have been busy… well… not that busy… I mean busy… but not too busy…
My first set-up
As you may or may not know I have acquired and have again running a Chandler and Price 10×15 Old Style press. It is in excellent shape and running as far as I can tell really well with no known or visible problems. I am now, after 6 months finally ready to ink up.
This last Sunday the Indian Shores Morning Market was cancelled due to inclement weather. This gave me the perfect opportunity to spend some time out in the shop. I cleaned up my work area a bit, sorted through the cases of type I have and went about setting up my first “Job”.
I set up type at business card size, locked it up in the chase and mounted in press. So… I need some practice moving the type from the job stick to the galley and then into the chase for lockup but all in good time. I didn’t have any string to tie it with so it was definitely a pain to move. Newb!
So with a little bit of work all is good. I have ink on the way, some Paper samples from Neenah Paper en route and some coasters from KatzAmericas being sent my way also. One of the first things I will be printing are the coasters, going to use them as business cards and a leave behind card for the breweries that we work at with Fork In The Road Mobile Eatery.
And so… Some of you may have noticed the newest addition to the site. Google Ads. Basically, I need to generate income anyway possible. As much as I don’t like the ads, income is income no matter how much or how little. I gotta pay the bills and there is a bunch of stuff I need to purchase for the press! Maybe sometime in the future after I get some income coming in from the press I will remove them but for now.
If they bother you that much… I do take donations LOL!
