Tremblay Letterpress Check-In
We have been hard at work getting things in order
Hello and welcome to the Tremblay Letterpress Check-In for June 2016. There has been a lot going on around here lately. Summer is upon us here in Florida, the temp is rising and it is getting hot out in the print shop just as we are ready to finally make some impressions!
We are still currently trying to raise money for a film processor to develop film imaged from one of our imagesetters. Unfortunately we have been unable so far to locate one within a reasonable distance from our location at a reasonable price and correct size so it looks like there will be the expense and headache of shipping the processor home via freight. Ugh.
Again, If anyone knows of or has a film processor for sale in the Tampa Bay area of Florida, please drop me a line and let me know. Maybe we can work something out!
In The Print Shop
Back in the print shop we received our re-covered rollers back from the Fabulous Ramco Roller Products! It has taken some time to save the extra money to do this, but it is done and they are beautiful… and round! Ha! I’m so excited!
Anyone in need of roller work should contact these people. They are a pleasure to deal with, their work is exceptional and they even took time to personally call me and tell me how I can save money shipping my rollers to them! As you know I built a wooden box to ship them in but after talking with Jayne, I took her advice and ordered boxes from the post office. It saved me over half the cost of shipping the wood box! Thank You Ramco! Money is tight and saving money on shipping… On Point!!
The Bodlien Project – Shakespeare Sonnet 69
Although we are still waiting for our new type to finish setting the sonnet (We were three H’s short to compete the last line of the sonnet) the most excellent people at M&H Type have offered to send me the remaining H’s i need from one of their cases. How cool are they!. They are still going to cast my set of lowercase Cloister Text in 12pt and then replace the letters that they removed from their case and send me the remainder.
This project is now almost ready to move forward. I have the paper in hand ready for trimming to final size and just need the last line of the sonnet before we can put on press…
Our new coaster designs have been completed and mag plates are on their way to me all the way From Pakistan. I was contacted out of the blue via LinkedIN by Salman (Sallu) Ghani. They look fantastic and when they get here we just have to mount to blocks type high and then we can run them out! Yes! Finally!
We have been hard at work updating the ProjectLink™ job management system. I am pleased to announce phase 1 of version 4.0.0 has been officially released and brought live. This major release of the ProjectLink™ system brings online a new module; pl.Payments, a complete re-vamp of the active invoicing and billing system. Although only phase 1 (the backend end) has been completed, we are ready to move to the next phases of version 4.0.0 and bring online viewing of active pl.jobJackets projects and online payment of invoices via pl.Payments.Billing.
ProjectLink™ also got many smaller improvements, tweaks and bug fixes that make the system a bit solid and definitely more easy to navigate. The transition from cookie based temp data to session based temp data has been completed. This was done for security reasons and was necessary for the next phases. The cookie based data was a carry-over from the original asp version that was first introduced in December of 2007. My-O-My there have been many upgrades from that original system.
Phase 2 of this version will introduce a customer front-end portal that will allow registered and approved customers to view all open pl.JobJackets projects active invoices. Although not a major addition, an important one that needs to take place before phase 3 can happen.
The 3rd phase of this version will be to build and implement pl.Payments.Billing. This module will allow on-line payment of invoices via credit cards. It will include the ability to pay for a single invoice or multiple invoices through a single transaction. This module is still in development. A basic version is currently in use and the expansion plans are in the works. A lot of planning for this module as it involves a cart system complete with checkout and payment transaction histories.
And lastly, phase 4 of version 4 will introduce pl.Orders. This new module will allow customers to place an order through their user portal. Much of this module is still in the planning stages and might even bring about version 5 depending on the depth and breadth of the addition.
